Friedheim is offering an unwrapper developed by Danish company Varo in the UK that was first demonstrated at interpack in Germany this May.
Cutting, removal and disposal is achieved within seconds on this unwrapping system for removal of stretch film wrapped around pallets. Traditionally, this process has primarily been carried out by hand, but thanks to the new technology developed and patented by Varo, the process can be carried out within seconds without human labour – and if necessary, around the clock.
At interpack, Varo enjoyed a great response from visitors to its stand to the new technology. In operation and thanks to a special system, each pallet is measured with millimetre precision and the stretch film is cut without damaging the wrapped product. The released stretch film is removed fully automatically and disposed of at the same time so that it can be included in any recycling cycle.
Varo’s technology has been designed to individually unwrap irregularly wrapped pallets up to a height of 2.7 m. Where employees previously had to use ladders and cutting knives to remove the film, which was not ideal and could be ergonomically tough, the new unwrapper does it fully automatically and in a few seconds. In this way, a previously unknown capacity can be created in the storage and logistics area and the entire warehouse can be optimised.
The compact technology can be integrated into virtually every automation process – without the use of compressed air. At any time of the day or night, the unwrapping can take place, with a capacity of up to a thousand stretch-wrapped pallets per day.
Friedheim says this process prevents accidents and at the same time is environmentally friendly and sustainable as the film can be compressed immediately and completely after unwrapping.
Any customers’ own wrapped pallets can be sent to Varo’s test centre, for the technology to prove its worth.
